UNDERSTANDING TOG RATING - TULO BABY

UNDERSTANDING TOG RATING

HOW TO DRESS YOUR BABY FOR SLEEP?

As parents, our constant concern has always been the comfort and temperature of our baby while they sleep.

Ensuring that our little ones stay cool and comfortable can be quite challenging, particularly during the hotter months. Conversely, we also need to find ways to keep our babies warm without causing them to overheat during the winter season.

Fortunately, the textile industry has developed a reliable rating system to assist us in determining the appropriate attire for our babies' sleep. This rating system is known as TOG.

WHAT IS A TOG?

TOG (Thermal Overall Grade) is a standardized unit of measurement that calculates the thermal insulation or warmth of a textile. Another way to think about it is, TOG determines the weight of a garment.

WHY IS TOG IMPORTANT?

Sleep sacks/sleeping suits or bags are assigned a TOG rating, which serves as a useful tool for parents in selecting the appropriate sleep sack based on their specific needs.

This information becomes especially crucial for newborns who are unable to regulate their body temperatures effectively.

During the winter season, it is advisable to opt for a sleep sack with a higher TOG rating, providing additional warmth. Conversely, in the summer months, a sleep sack with a lower TOG rating is more suitable for keeping our babies cool and comfortable.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Overheating can increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It is essential to pay attention to the TOG rating of the sleep sack, avoid overdressing your baby during sleep time, and regularly monitor the temperature of your baby's room.

KEEP IN MIND

In order to determine the appropriate TOG rating for your sleep sack/suit or bag, it is important to be aware of the temperature in your baby's nursery or room. You can easily access this information through most video monitors or use a separate thermometer reader specifically designed for your baby's room.

It is recommended to maintain an ideal temperature range of (23-26°C) in your baby's sleeping environment.

WHY DO WE HAVE 0.6 TOG VALUE FOR OUR SLEEP SERIES?

The 0.6 TOG sleep sack is designed with lightweight and breathable fabric, such as cotton hosiery 180GSM. It is specifically suitable for nurseries with warmer temperatures where air conditioning may not be available.

After conducting numerous TOG tests, we have carefully selected this fabric, taking into consideration the typical climate in India throughout the year. The TOG value we have determined is well-suited for both warm and cooler weather conditions. In India, during the summer months, when temperatures are high, babies can comfortably wear only diapers inside the sleep sacks. On the other hand, during the winter season, parents can layer appropriate clothing along with the sleep sack to ensure their baby stays warm in the Indian cold.

We have strived to create a versatile sleep sack that adapts to the varying climate in India, providing optimal comfort and temperature regulation for babies throughout the year.

HOW TO DRESS A BABY WITH 0.6 TOG SLEEP SACKS?

The table below provides you with the guidelines around how to dress your baby based on 0.6 TOG in different room temperatures.

0.6 TOG CLOTHING

The table is only a guide. All babies are different. The number of clothing layers may vary according to a baby's health, their physiology and the room temperature in the room. The care-giver must determine what is suitable.

Note: It is important to check your baby regularly to ensure that they are comfortable and that they do not overheat.
