SLEEPING POD - FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SLEEPING POD

WHY SWADDLE BABIES?
Medical research suggests that swaddling is beneficial in helping newborns to sleep better. Swaddling a baby may calm their 'startle reflex' which wakes them up and disturbs their sleep. Our SLEEPING POD helps a baby settle quickly and establish a peaceful sleep routine. Importantly removes the need for loose blankets in the crib, making it a safer option for babies. Unlike traditional swaddles that keep a baby's arms by their side across their chest, the unique ARMS UP design of our SLEEPING POD has wings that allows a baby to sleep in a natural position. This means that your baby can easily touch their face or suck their hands or fingers for SELF-SOOTHING.

WHY ARMS UP?

SLEEPING POD is specifically designed to let your baby sleep in a natural ARMS UP position. This position allows them to bring their hands to the mouth for SELF-SOOTHING during sleep time, resulting in more sleep for everyone.

WHAT IS SELF-SOOTHING?

A natural way babies settle themselves to sleep is by sucking their hands or rubbing their cheeks. This is called SELF-SOOTHING. This hand sucking can also help develop mouth muscles which aid in feeding, speech development and their natural rooting reflex. SLEEPING POD has been designed to safely suck on their hands to self-soothe.

IS IT UNHYGIENIC FOR MY BABY TO SUCK THEIR HANDS WHEN THEY ARE COVERED IN THE SLEEPING POD?

The SLEEPING POD is unique because it allows your baby to access his or her hands for self-soothing. Some babies love to suck on their hands as they fall asleep, unfortunately this does mean that 'wings' of the pod can get a little wet. Parents should wash any garment, swaddle or wrap after use like we do it with baby mittens, if it is soiled. We recommend purchasing more than one so that you always have a clean SLEEPING POD while one is in wash.

DO I ONLY NEED ONE SLEEPING POD?

We recommend that you purchase at least two products in the appropriate size. If you own two, then one can be in the wash while your baby is wearing the other one. It might even be helpful to consider having a third one on hand to use in case of emergencies.

HOW CAN I CARE FOR SLEEPING POD RANGE?

Wash before first use. Close zipper before washing. Warm gentle machine wash with similar colours. Do not soak. Do not bleach. Tumble dry on low. Warm iron if necessary. Do not iron on the zipper. Do not dry clean.

MY BABY IS GROWING SO QUICKLY. CAN I JUST BUY A BIGGER SIZE AND LET HIM/HER GROW INTO IT?

As tempting as it might be to buy a bigger size, unfortunately the answer is no. It is very important that you always purchase the correct size from the SLEEPING POD range for your baby based on their current weight. If you use a SLEEPING POD that is too big for your baby the neckline could be too loose, which can potentially be dangerous.

MY BABY'S LEGS TOUCH THE BOTTOM OF THE GARMENT, SHALL I MOVE UP TO THE NEXT SIZE?

If your baby's legs touch the bottom of the SLEEPING POD, but if the fit across the body is correct, then keep using the SLEEPING POD. It is "not too short"! The length of the bag is specially designed to be little shorter so that-as your baby grows- they can push against the bottom of the bag. The pushing action and feeling "the ends' of the bag contribute to further SELF-SOOTHING.

IS THE SLEEPING POD HEALTHY FOR YOUR BABY'S HIP DEVELOPMENT?

Yes, our SLEEPING POD is safe for your baby's hip development. You baby's natural safe sleep position is with  their legs splayed in a frog-like position. The SLEEPING POD allows your baby to sleep in this position without restrictions.

CAN MY BABY USE THE SLEEPING POD FROM DAY ONE?

Yes, this is actually the best time to start. If your baby weighs between 2.2-3.6 Kgs. at birth please choose the SLEEPING POD in size Newborn.
If your baby weighs between 3.6-5.8 Kgs. at birth, please choose the SLEEPING POD In size 0-3 months.

While there is some crossover in size, we highly recommend that you do not move into size Small unless or until your baby is at the upper limit of size Newborn. Using a SLEEPING POD or any garment that is too big for your baby can be dangerous for your baby as excess fabric can be a hazard.

IS IT SAFE TO USE A BLANKET OVER THE SLEEPING POD?

Do not put anything soft, loose or fluffy in your baby's sleep space. This includes pillows, blankets, comforters, soft or pillow-like bumpers, stuffed animals and other soft items. Use a sleep sack or other type sleeper instead of blankets to keep your baby warm and safe.

IS IT SAFE TO USE A SLEEPING BAG OVER A SLEEPING POD?

It is not recommended to use a sleeping bag over the SLEEPING POD.
